Do you love the Albany Public Library, and want to build a strong foundation for your library for the next 100 years? Do you love books and authors, and want to cultivate book discussion in Albany? Do you care about digital equity, and want to join an organization working to bring wifi to the people in Albany? If you answered yes to any of the above, maybe you would like to join the board of the Friends & Foundation of Albany Public Library.
“The Friends and Foundation are governed by an active and committed board of 18 people.”
In fact, we are seventeen people right now, and we anticipate new vacancies to come this winter. We are seeking 3-5 new board members for the coming year: We welcome your expression of interest, or your introduction to prospective board members. If you are curious, but not quite ready to express interest, come to the Literary Legends gala and look for the “Join our Board” table, where an ambassador will be happy to answer any questions.
We are departing from our normal board selection process in order to fill our vacancies by January of 2023. For our expedited process, send an email to “hello@ffapl.org” with “Board Interest: [your name]” in the subject line. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in serving on our board, and attach your resume or include a link to your LinkedIn profile. Make sure to include your telephone number. Roger Green, the chair of our Board Nominating Committee, will follow-up with you to arrange an interview with you. You may join in a board meeting for the first 15 minutes to introduce yourself or meet other members. The board will vote on your candidacy at that meeting. (Our next meetings are September 15, November 17, and January 15.]
If you have never served on a board, Board Source has four questions that you should ask yourself before your first time serving.
Thank you for considering joining our organization! We have grown tremendously in the past year thanks to our Digital Equity grant, from the NY Digital Inclusion Fund, and need to fill our current and upcoming vacancies to continue this good work.
