Dr. Leonard Slade Jr. was honored at the 2016 Literary Legends Gala. He is professor of Africana Studies and an adjunct professor of English at the University at Albany. Slade has published a total of 23 books, 18 of which are books of poetry and his writing has been published in a long list of magazines and journals. He’s spent a majority of his life teaching. He started at Kentucky State University for 22 years then went to the University of Albany where he continues to teach today. He has received multiple awards for his teaching abilities including the Excellence in Teaching Award (received twice), The Professor of the Year Award and The Hudson Mohawk Association of Colleges and Universities Award.
