This year, our Annual Appeal distribution was directed towards virtual programs for APL patrons. Here is the list of upcoming programs funded by your Annual Appeal gifts. Check the Library’s Calendar of Events for confirmed dates for all these programs.
First Saturday Online Concert with Josh Greenberg & Friends
Saturday, November 7th, 2020
Josh Greenberg, the leader of Mother Goose Jazz Band, teaches young children about music through discussion and playing his own compositions with two fellow musicians!
One-on-One Career Coaching and Resume Writing
By appointment beginning in November
Marsha Lazarus, MBA, gives patrons the opportunity for individual time to discuss career and workplace questions. This program fosters life and digital skills for patrons, giving them the tools and the confidence to find meaningful work.
Project Lit Book Club
Beginning this month.
Edmund O’Neal Middle School of Excellence, in collaboration with the Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch, presents a weekly club to help improve the literacy skills and enjoyment for middle schoolers in the Arbor Hill area. Each participant will be provided with paperback Project Lit books and monthly craft/activity kits to go with them.
Digital Storytelling
Coming in January 2021
Youth FX partner Easton Unlimited wants to show patrons the possibilities of education and inspiration through digital storytelling. Over the course of 6 Zoom sessions, a wide variety of topics are covered, including story basics, visual storytelling, storytelling for career building, and more.
Growing readers Giveaway Bags

The Youth Programming Committee put together 100 Giveaway Bags, which they distribute among the Pine Hills, Arbor Hill, and Howe areas. These bags provide free books, literacy activities, and bookmarks, as well as eggs and scarves to engage children in movement during rhymes and songs.
Questions of Representation: An Intergenerational Dialogue
October 19
Youth FX and Howe Branch Manager, Tor Loney, together with Literary Legend Frankie F. Bailey, offer an online discussion about representation in relation to the films I Am Not Negro and Richard Wright: Black Boy. This program, run by local experts, provides patrons with a connection to strong and meaningful films, while simultaneously encouraging public interaction and participation through a discussion of antiracist works.
