Library Advocacy Day is Wednesday, March 2nd. Join Library Champions from across New York State to advocate for public libraries across our state.
How you can help:
- Stand Up: Here is the simplest message to post on your social media on Wednesday, March 2nd: “Today, I am joining hundreds of #LibraryAdvocates across NYS to advocate for the legislative and budget priorities that will strengthen #NYSLibraries! #LAD22”
- Amplify: Follow the #LAD22 hashtag on social media. Like a message? Retweet/Repost it!
- Be a Social Media Advocate: Visit the NYLA page with template messages and tricks for how to “Leverage Your Network.”
- Send a Letter/Email to your Elected Officials. Not social media savvy? No worries. NYLA has both letter and email templates for you to customize and send to your elected officials. (You can also pick up the phone if that’s your style.)
It seems that every year since 2020 is unique. 2022 is keeping up the trend. Library Advocacy Day this year will not be a simple budget request, but rather advocacy for a slew of bills in the legislature that involve public libraries and school libraries. Read an overview of all the bills here, or read about NYLA’s funding priorities here.
This is your day to tell your elected officials how much libraries matter to you and your community!
