On #GivingTuesday, we invite friends, neighbors, and volunteers to test the speed of APL WiFi and share your results. An internet speed test is a measurement of how fast internet is in real-time.

Here is how to join in:

  1. Visit a location with APL outdoor WiFi
    • Branches: Outdoors at all APL branches except North Albany
      • Not all outdoors areas are covered. For example at Delaware, the WiFi serves the outdoor wifi serves the front courtyard, but not the parking lot.
    • Parks: Washington Park, Lincoln Park, Swinburne Park
    • Albany Housing: Outdoors at Ezra Prentice (east of Pearl St), Outdoors at Ida Yarborough (west of Pearl St), 200 Green St (outside east entrance, facing 787 and bike path).

Why are we doing this?

  • We want data to make a map of where the WiFi reaches and where it doesn’t reach, and how well it works.
  • We also want more of the public to know about free APL WiFi outdoors!
