It’s that wonderful time of the year again—National Library Week! This week is all about celebrating the magic, wonder, and importance of our beloved libraries. From the cozy reading nooks to the vast collection of books, libraries have been our sanctuaries and gateways to countless adventures. So, grab your library card, and let’s dive into the exciting ways you can celebrate this special week at Albany Public Library!

Ways to Celebrate National Library Week

Visit Your Library

First things first, visiting your local library is the heart and soul of National Library Week celebrations. Many libraries go the extra mile during this week, hosting special events, workshops, and activities for readers of all ages. Whether you’re a parent looking for a fun outing with your kids or just wanting to spend a quiet afternoon surrounded by books, there’s something for everyone.

Take this opportunity to meet the wonderful librarians, of Albany’s seven different branches, who work tirelessly to keep the library running smoothly and help patrons find their next favorite read. They’re the unsung heroes behind the scenes, and they’ll be more than happy to guide you through the library’s offerings and programs. Who knows? You might discover a new section or service you never knew existed!

Share Your Library Love: #HowILibrary Contest

Do you have a favorite memory or experience at the library? Maybe it’s the summer reading program at Pine Hills Branch that ignited your love for books, or perhaps it’s the cozy corner where you’ve spent countless hours lost in your favorite novel at Howe. Whatever it is, now’s the time to share your library love with the world through the #HowILibrary contest!

Participating is a breeze:

Snap a photo or shoot a short video showcasing your favorite thing about your library.

Share it on Instagram, Twitter, Threads, or the I Love Libraries Facebook page using the hashtag #HowILibrary.

Don’t forget to tag your library to show them some love and appreciation!

And guess what? There are some awesome prizes up for grabs:

Grand Prize: A VISA gift card worth $150.00 USD and a choice of one ALA Graphics poster.

Second Prize: Your choice of one ALA Graphics poster (3 winners).

So, get creative and let your library shine through your photos and videos! If you’re stuck for ideas, you can check out the Library Elements graphics at ilovelibraries.org for some inspiration. Hurry, the promotion runs from Sunday, April 7, at noon CT to Friday, April 12, at noon CT.
